Roland-Garros 2024: Djokovic's Title Defense Ends
Djokovic Defeated in First Round by Herbert
Historic Effort by World No. 1 Falls Short
In a stunning upset, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic's title defense at Roland-Garros 2024 came to an end on Tuesday, as he was defeated by Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the first round in four sets, 6-4, 7-6, 7-3, 6-4.
Djokovic, who has won the French Open twice in his career, was looking to become the first man since Rafael Nadal to win three consecutive titles in Paris.
Herbert, ranked 79th in the world, played the match of his life, hitting winners from all over the court and forcing Djokovic to run all over the Philippe-Chatrier court.
The match was a thrilling affair, with both players giving it their all. However, Herbert was ultimately too strong on the day, and he deservedly advanced to the second round.
